WWE Unforgiven
By: James Caldwell, The Wrestle Press
Sunday, September 12, 2004
Live from the Rose Garden in Portland, Oregon.
Check out the Full Preview.

- We open with a look at Third Generation superstar Randy Orton. Audio from Triple H reminded us that Orton
was supposed to become The Game's protege. Instead, Orton became Enemy #1. Orton's theme music played
in the background...I'm still no too thrilled about it. Doesn't fit the character.

- Fireworks shot off inside the Rose Garden leading to Jim Ross and Jerry Lawler welcoming us to the show.
Very sleek set for the PPV. Nice design.

Match 1 - Ric Flair & Batista vs. Chris Benoit & William Regal.
Chris Benoit: From Main Eventer of Summerslam to Curtain Jerker on Unforgiven. JR let us know that Eugene's

punches. Flair with a chop sending Regal back down.

Batista tagged in and clotheslined Regal to the mat. Batista with a two count. On the outside, Flair and Batista
worked over Regal. Back in the ring, Flair went to work on Regal's knee with chop blocks. Flair locked in a Figure
Four in the middle of the ring. Benoit encouraged Regal to fight off the hold. Benoit ran in and broke up the hold.
Flair slapped the figure four back on, but Regal turned it into a small package for a two count. Batista tagged in
and suplexed Regal. Batista with a cover, but Benoit broke up the hold. The King berated Benoit for interfering.
Batista slapped on a reverse chin lock on Regal. Regal broke the hold then ran head first into Batista. Benoit took
the hot tag and opened up a can on Flair, who also received a tag. Benoit with a back drop and a suplex. Benoit
knocked Batista off the apron then picked up Flair. Benoit with a German Suplex on Flair. Batista ran in and took a
German Suplex. Benoit grabbed Flair and landed two German Suplexes. Benoit called for the end and went up
top for a Diving Headbutt. Benoit picked up Flair and went for a Sharpshooter, but Flair hit a thumb to the eye.

Regal ran in and took a Spinebuster. On the outside, Regal sent Batista into the ringpost. Batista went flying into
the stands, then back in the ring, Flair went for a Figure Four. Benoit countered it into a Crippler Crossface. Flair
tapped out, with Batista still in the stands, unable to help.
Winners - Benoit & Regal by submission.

- In the back, Christian and Tyson Tomko were with Trish Stratus. Stratus and Christian argued over whose
property Tomko was. Trish and Christian argued that each one needed Tomko more than the other. Trish said
Tomko should decide. Before Tomko could decide, Trish told Tomko that after her match, Tomko could come to
her dressing room and...well...Trish whispered it in Tomko's ear. Tomko approved and told Christian good luck,
then left with Trish. Christian said, "She really is a slut."

Match 2 - Women's Title Match - Trish Stratus(c) w/Tyson Tomko vs. Victoria
Victoria came out sporting a new cream colored outfit. She still had the same lame dance routine however. The
match began with Victoria throwing Trish through the ropes to the outside. Tomko helped Trish recover on the
outside as the fans ringside called Trish a slut. Back in the ring, Trish with a knee to the gut on Victoria. Trish took
Victoria up top and choked Victoria. Trish repeated the choke hold then bowed to the crowd. Trish went for the

shake rattle and backflip splash for a two count. Trish ducked a right hand then took a headbutt. Victoria with a
nice body splash over the top rope onto Tomko. Tomko got up and chased Victoria back into the ring. Trish spun
Victoria around and hit the Stratusfaction on Victoria for the three count and the win.
Winner - Victoria by pinfall to retain the Women's Title.

Post Match
: Tomko picked up Victoria and was going to slam her, then the mystery woman aka Stevie Richards
ran in and scored a DDT on Tyson. Stevie took off to the back. Tomko called out Stevie to solve the mystery of the
"cross dressing hermaphrodite." A match was begun.

Match 3 - Tyson Tomko vs. Stevie Richards.
Stevie came into the ring and slapped Tomko. Tomko responded by slapping Stevie right across the face. Tomko
ripped off his outfit, stripping Stevie down to his underwear. Tomko took out the stuffing from Stevie's bra then
shoved it in his throat. Tomko landed a huge punch to the face then continued to destroy Richards, who was
down to granny "tighty whities" underwear only. The fants chanted "You Suck" at Tomko as Ross and The King
debated the merits of granny panties. Tomko dragged the match out, working on Stevie with the same offense.
Stevie finally fought back with a slap then Tomko responded with a knock down punch. The fans chanted "Boring"
as the action dragged on. Tomko with another knock down right hand. Stevie took another series of right hands
then no sold the punches. Stevie pumped himself up and told Tomko to bring it. Tomko slapped Stevie in the
back of the ehad and told him, "You're a punk...a big sissy." Stevie reared back and grabbed Tomko in the crotch.
Stevie sent Tomko head first into the turnbuckle then grabbed his crotch again. Tomko responded by scoring a
Swinging Breaker for the pin and the win.
Winner - Tyson Tomko by pinfall.

- We went to a video package highlighting Christian's return two weeks ago on Raw and subsequent beat down
on Chris Jericho. We also saw Eric Bischoff's announcement six days ago on Raw when he stripped Edge of the
IC Title, then created a Ladder Match between Chris Jericho and Christian for the belt.

Match 4 - Intercontinental Title Match - Ladder Match - Chris Jericho vs. Christian
We saw the IC Title hanging above the middle of the ring then Chris Jericho came out. Four ladders were shown
outside the ring. JR let us know that all outside parties have been banned from the match. JR said that Tomko is
probably too pre-occupied taking up Trish on her offer. Christian came out focused on the match.

Christian and Jericho went nose to nose and trash talked before Christian slapped Jericho across the face.
Jericho responded with a right hand abd back elbow to the face. Jericho with a side belly to back suplex, going
right after Christian's previously injured back. Jericho accepted a chop across the chest in retaliation from
Christian. Christian choked Jericho across the bottom rope as the fans chanted, "CLB" at Christian. Jericho
blocked a clothesline and back body dropped Christian over the top rope to the floor. Jericho played to the crowd
then went to the outside to grab a ladder. Jericho sent the ladder in Christian's direction, but Christian ran away in
time, avoiding a crushing blow. Back in the ring, Christian stomped on Jericho's chest. Jericho countered a
splash against the ropes and sent Christian face first across the bottom rope. Jericho with a splash across the
bottom rope and side kick to the head. Jericho went to the outside and picked up one of the ladders. Jericho
avoided a baseball slide from Christian then sent the ladder right into Christian's gut. Christian ducked a ladder
shot the face then sent him into the crowd. Christian followed Jericho into the crowd then took him up the
bleachers. Christian and Jericho battled in the crowd then took the action back to the ringside area. Jericho
choked Christian with TV cables then took a kick to the gut. Christian with the "Unprettier" sending Jericho face
first into the floor. Christian kicked on Jericho then picked up a ladder and took it into the ring. Christian set up the
ladder and began climbing up. Christian reached the belt and had it in his hand, but Jericho pulled his hand
down. Christian jumped down and sent Jericho head first into the ladder. Christian propped the ladder in the
corner as Jericho recovered in the corner. Christian picked up Jericho and tried to whip Jericho into the ladder,
but Jericho reversed it and sent him head first into the face of the ladder. Both men laid on the mat.

Both men recovered and exchanged right hands. Christian set up the ladder in the middle of the ring then sent
Jericho head first into the ladder. Christian placed the ladder in the corner again. Christian placed Jericho
underneath the ladder then slingshot him face first into the ladder. Christian propped up the ladder then began
climbing again. Christian slowly climbed the ladder then Jericho recovered and pulled Christian down. Christian
put Jericho into the corner then put the ladder on top of him. Christian ran in the corner for a splash, but Jericho
threw the ladder into Christian's face. Jericho set up a ladder in the corner then went up top. Jericho swung down
with the ladder and sent it across Christian's leg. Jericho missed with a corner splash and went leg first in
between two ladder steps. Jericho, upside down with his leg stuck in the ladder, received a splash from
Christian. Jericho held his knee in the corner as Christian set up another ladder in the middle of the ring.
Christian began to climb the ladder, but Jericho flicked off Christian. Christian took exception to the gesture and
climbed back down. Christian grabbed the ladder and took a drop kick in the face from Jericho. Nice decoy from
Jericho. Jericho threw the ladder down then bulldogged Christian face first into the ladder. Jericho put Christian
inside the ladder then slammed the top of the ladder across Christian's gut. Jericho went for a Lionsault off the
ropes, but Christian moved and Jericho went knee first across the ladder.

Chrisitan picked up the ladder and sent it into Jericho's face. Christian threw Jericho to the outside then set up
the ladder in the middle of the ring. Christian began to climb up, with his back to Jericho, who was still on the
outside. Christian looked up and grabbed a hold of the belt, but Jericho ran up. Christian punched Jericho then
grabbed the belt with both hands. Jericho fell off the ladder and took the ladder with him. Christian dangled in the
air without a ladder to stand on. Jericho picked up the ladder and sent it into Christian's side, sending Christian
flying off the belt and into the mat. Jericho made his first attempt to reach the belt. Christian recovered and shoved
the ladder down. Jericho jumped off the ladder just in time. Christian set up the ladder then went up top. Jericho
climbed up top and sent Christian back first across the ladder. Jericho with a reverse Walls of Jericho, sending
Christian's back into intense pain. Jericho threw Christian off the ladder then went for the belt. Christian recovered
just in time to throw Jericho off the ladder and to the mat. The ladder fell as well and hit Jericho on the way down.

Christian set up the ladder and climbed up top. Jericho picked up a smaller ladder and climbed up too. The two
exchanged right hands then Jericho grabbed Christian by the hair and scored a bull dog to the mat. Jericho was
the first one up and set up one of the ladders. Jericho reached up and grabbed the belt. Jericho tried to unfasten
the belt as Christian recovered to his feet. Jericho snapped the belt off the hook and held it in his possession.
Christian cried on the mat as he looked to be in immense pain. JR speculated that both men would need
medical as well as psycholiogical evaluations after this match. Will Christian now have a ladder match phobia to
go with his cage match phobia?
Winner - Chris Jericho to win the Intercontinental Title.

- Todd Grisham was in the backstage area next to Kane's locker room door. Lita came out for an interview and
said she hopes Shawn Michaels destroys Kane in the worse way possible. Kane came up from behind, smiling.
Lita stopped her tirade sensing Kane's presence. Kane, smiling, grabbed Lita and said, "she's so supportive."
Kane let the crowd know that Eric Bischoff just made his match against Shawn Michaels a DQ Match. Kane
demanded a kiss for good luck and forced himself onto Lita.

- Coach was in the back with new IC Champ, Chris Jericho. Jericho said he feels like a King, despite having a
shoulder pack and injuries galore. Edge, on crutches, sarcastically congratulated Jericho and asked if it felt sort
of hollow to have the Title, despite never beating him for it. Edge told Jericho to shine up the belt for him, because
he's going to want it back when he can wrestle again.

the meaning behind Kane's size 18 foot means. JR: "Big Socks."

HBK responded to Kane with a chop to the chest. Kane responded with a sidewalk slam. Kane missed a flying
elbow smash and went to the outside to yell at Lita. HBK with a top rope cross body splash onto Kane on the
outside. Kane used Lita as shield, then punched a distracted HBK. Kane removed the cover off the Spanish
Announce Table then slammed HBK back first across the edge of the table. The table didn't break. Good handy
work by the manufacturer. Kane picked up HBK and body slammed him into the table again...this time the table
broke in half. Back in the ring, Kane covered HBK and scored a two count. Kane with a huge leaping leg drop
across the chest. Nice elevation. Kane covered HBK and scored a two count. Kane with a right hand in the corner

- Todd Grisham was in the back with Triple H. Triple H said Randy Orton did nothing with potential until he met
him. Triple H said he became great because of him. Triple H reminded us that he chose Randy Orton to become
great, yet he turned his back on him. Triple H went off on Orton for being ungrateful for all the benefits he made
available to him. Triple H: "I made Randy Orton, I can break Randy Orton."

Match 6 - Tag Team Title Match - La Resistance (Sylvain Grenier & Rob Conway)(c) vs. Tajiri & Rhyno.
Grenier began to sing the Canadian National Anthem, then Rhyno & Tajiri interrupted, saving my ears from going
deaf. The two teams stared each other down before the bell rang.

The two teams opened up by exchanging offense. Each team scored two counts early on. Tajiri and Conway went
at it with Tajiri going for a bulldog, which Conway reversed into a face plant. Conway with a tag to Grenier who
scored a snap suplex. Grenier twisted Tajiri's neck in a submission hold. Grenier continued to work on Tajiri with
submission holds. Tajiri broke out with a side kick then tagged in Rhyno. Rhyno knocked down both members of
La Resistance then speared Grenier int he corner. Rhyno with a belly to belly and a two count. All four members
brawled in the ring. Grenier sent Tajiri onto the apron, then crotched the Quebec flag on Grenier. Rhyno speared
Grenier, and scored a two count only when Conway put Grenier's foot on the bottom rope. Tajiri super kicked
Conway on the outside. The referee was focused on Tajiri & Conway, which allowed Grenier to smash the
Quebec flag over Rhyno's head. Grenier covered Rhyno and the referee came over to count the three count for the
win. Why? Come on.  La Resistance does nothing to add to the Tag Team division.
Winners- La Resistance by pinfall to retain the Tag Titles.

- A video package aired to highlight the feud between Randy Orton and Triple H which began with Triple H turning
on Orton, the guy he chose to take his place. No promo from Orton...doesn't make sense. Well, based on how
bad his promo was on Raw, I guess they didn't want him to mess up again.

Match 7 - WWE World Title match - Randy Orton(c) vs. Triple H.
Orton came out to his crappy new music and the crowd responded by sitting on their hands. Orton's music
sounds too mid-cardish and not fit for a WWE Champion. Referee Earl Hebner checked the boots and tights of
the two competitors before calling for the opening bell.

The two stood across from each other, not moving, and not moving their eyes off of the other. Orton and Triple H
locked up in the corner then Triple H shoved Orton. Orton responded with a slap right across the face. The slap
from Triple H messed up Orton's hair, which dangled from his bangs. Triple H with a take over then another one.
Orton popped up to his feet and slapped Triple H. Triple H slowly turned around, not liking the disrespect. Orton
reared back and spit right in Triple H's chest. Orton smiled then went serious with a right hand to the face. Orton
scored a back body drop then delivered a European Uppercut. Orton locked in a reverse chin lock, wearing Triple
H down in the corner. Triple H delivered a right hand to the face then Orton responded with right hands of his own.
Orton whipped Triple H over the top turnbuckle and to the outside. Orton readjusted his knee pads then went to
the outside to clothesline Triple H to the floor. Orton decked Triple H with a right hand then sent him back into the
ring. Orton delivered a right hand then a European Uppercut. Orton sent Triple H into the ringpost then delivered a
right hand. Triple H quickly countered with a drop toe hold then smashed Orton's left knee. Orton cried out in pain
giving Triple H an opportunity to go to work on the knee.

Triple H wrapped Orton's knee around the ringpost. Triple H took Orton to another corner and wrapped the knee
around the ringpost. Triple H with a chop block to the knee. Triple H dangled Orton's knee across the middle rope
then sat down on it, driving the backside into the knee and quadricep. Triple H locked on a submission hold,
bending Orton's knee backwards. Orton used his good right knee to smash Triple H's throat. Orton went back to
his feet and delivered a series of right hands. Orton whipped Triple H to the ropes, but couldn't stand up, so Triple
H delivered a face buster across the knee. Orton scored a two count then picked up Orton's leg and smashed it to
the mat. Triple H delivered elbows to the inside of Orton's injured knee then went for a Figure Four. Triple H
locked in the figure four and Orton cried out in pain. Triple H applied more pressure throwing his weight into the
hold. Orton tried to reverse the hold, but Triple H put an end to the momentum by grabbing the top rope to get
extra leverage. Referee Earl Hebner failed to notice the hold and finally Orton reached across and slapped Triple
H's arms off the ropes. Orton rallied and tried to turn the hold, but Triple H grabbed the top rope again. Hebner
caught Triple H this time and forced him to break the hold. Triple H went back to the figure four, but Orton shoved
Triple H into the ringpost, using his foot. Orton laid on the mat, worn out from fighting the figure four. Triple H
came up bleeding from the eye. Ow. Blade job already.

Orton picked himself up and delivered a right hand then a powerslam off the ropes. Orton went right after Triple
H's eye, trying to open up the blood spot some more. Orton garnered enough energy to deliver a drop kick, then
came down holding his knee. Good instincts to deliver the drop kick as JR called it. Orton delivered a DDT then
covered Triple H, but only scored a two count. Triple H reversed a whip to the ropes and slapped on a sleeper
hold. Orton fought off and countered with a sleeper hold of his own. Triple H countered with a side belly to back
suplex. Triple H went up top for a top rope splash, but Orton stuck his foot up into Triple H's face. Triple H fell to
the mat ala Ric Flair. Orton climbed up top and waited for Triple H to get to his feet. Orton connected with a flying
cross body block. Orton scored a two count only. Orton clotheslined Triple H over the top rope to the mat. Orton
went to the outside and limped over to Triple H. Orton sent a right hand to Triple H's face. Orton shook off the
blood from his fist then sent Triple H into the ring steps. Orton sent Triple H back into the ring then climbed back
in. Orton delivered a right hand to the face then landed a nice inverted neckbreaker. Orton rolled onto Triple H and
scored a two count on the pin attempt. Orton favored his knee and called for Triple H stand up. Orton appeared to
be going for the RKO, but Triple H shoved Orton into the referee. Triple H went for a Pedigree, but Orton broke the
hold and scored an RKO. Ric Flair ran down and received a series of right hands. Flair was clotheslined over the
top rope to the outside. Batista ran in and ate the ringpost, then fell to the outside. Orton walked over to Triple H
and received a low blow from Triple H. Triple H covered Orton, but the referee was still out cold. Coach ran in and
counted a two count only. Orton got up and knocked Coach out. Batista ran in and delivered a spinebuster to
Orton. Triple H covered Orton and Coach crawled over to make the count. One...two...kick out at two 9/10 by Orton.
Orton rallied to his feet as the crowd finally responded. Orton countered a Pedigree with a back body drop. Orton
delivered an RKO to Coach. Orton blocked a chair shot from Flair then gave him an RKO for good measure.
Batista ran in and went for a Powerbomb, but Orton dropped down and low blowed Batista. Triple H picked up the
chair that Flair brought into the corner and delivered a sickening chair shot across the head of Orton. Orton
couldn't even get his hands up to block the shot. Orton was completely motionless as Triple H crawled over to
Orton. Triple H picked up Orton and set hiom up for a Pedigree. Triple H delivered a Pedigree into the steel chair.
Triple H threw the chair away then covered Orton. Batista threw Earl Hebner into the ring. Hebner threw his hands
down three times to count the three count for Triple H's win. WTF?
Winner - Triple H by pinfall to win the WWE Title for the 9th Time.

Post Match:
Jim Ross screamed about how unfairly this match ended. Triple H rolled over on his side and
accepted the WWE Title from Hebner. Batista and Flair picked up Triple H and dragged him out of the ring with the
belt. Orton, his eyes completely glazed over, laid still in the ring. Triple H stood atop the entrance ramp with Flair
and Batista as Orton recovered and held himself on the bottom rope. Triple H shook his head at Orton, as if to say
"I told you so." Orton nearly cried as he tried to hold himself up. JR and Lawler debated how unfair it was for Orton
to win the WWE Title with the help of Evolution and a chair. Come on, where's Vince McMahon to make it right? No
Vince, no re-start of the match. Orton was left on the bottom rope as we faded to black...what a crappy ending.
